MORNING CO-WASH

Last week I felt like my hair was definitely lacking my usual standards of moisture, so I decided to co-wash my hair in the morning right before work to bring my tresses to life. Normally I do not wash my hair in the day time only because I made a decision to only go with set styles (i.e. twist-outs), to avoid having to leave with a wet head. Once my hair hit a certain point in length, I felt like it was no longer okay to leave the house with damp tresses.

Yesterday I washed my hair and put it in a low coil-y pony which I loved! I am no longer anti-washing in the morning! I don’t believe I’ve tried this style since maybe sometime last year. It’s funny how we realize that I hair has grown after revisiting a style that didn’t necessarily work out some time the year prior.

No gel, simply a hair butter and of course the conditioner that I didn't completely rinse out.

I stopped by Target to get a few things that I’ve been meaning to pick up over the last week or so. No specific brand in mind, I knew I either needed to go to MAC and pick up another Siss lipstick (one of my favorites) or find something like it.

Wet-n-Wild | 902C [BARE IT ALL]

Although It doesn’t glide on as smooth as MAC, it does do the trick.The tube is pretty cheap, but as for formula quality, it lasts longand is a pretty good alternative to Siss, only about $3.

With things already transitioning into the Spring/Summer styles I decided to go ahead and start testing the waters for the perfect Neon/Bright lipstick colors

Wet-n-Wild | C905D [Smokin’ Hot Pink]

This actually looks a little more on the red side on my bare lips than what I’d expected. I will have to try this out with maybe a base, or perhaps mix it with another color.

These two products below don't really impress me much, the mage last Wet-n-Wild retractable eyeliner in Charcoal doesn't have the best color pay off, I prefer a liner with a softer formula, and richer color. As for the E.L.F. studio Lengthening & Volumizing Mascara it's okay, coats the lashes and gives you a nice daytime lash look, nothing dramatic and only $3.

Now, to wrap it up. . . these weeks have been rather busy and I’ve been a #badbrosia, falling asleep sitting up with a face of makeup. Leaving the house at 6am and notgetting back in until around 10/11pm will do that. I absolutely cannot stand sleeping in makeup, so it was essential to get some type of makeup removing face wipes for those exhausting nights. I picked up the store brand makeup remover cleansing towelettes (30 pack) about $3-$5, I'm happy with them so far, I will update you all of I have any breakouts *knocks on wood*

CHUNKY FACETED STUDS

I have been highly into all earrings that add that simple blast of oomph to a look. I find that I have veered away from chandelier/dangle earrings from summer to current, and switched it up to simple studs.

I hand cut each earring, so no one is exact, size wise. Though I am quite the perfectionist so I have made sure that each earring in a pair matches size.

I am wearing the foundation (which I didn't even have to set with a powder) and only 3 of the eyeshadows (all but arena)

This is a great way to start off your morning. If you're like me and don't like to make the whole 'big breakfast' deal your daily thing than you'll like this. Honestly, when ever I eat a huge breakfast it never really makes me feel energized and productive, it more so makes me want to take a nap. This does the trick for me, I always feel energized and productive after enjoying a fruit smoothie, try it out!

So this is what the roads were like on Thanksgiving Day. Empty, everyone was home eating, enjoying family, etc. . . I didn't leave the house until about 5pm. I really enjoyed this holiday, so thankful for the family that I have!

Rob made plans for us to have a relaxing moment at the mountain and enjoyed the sunset. No photo's of the sunset, but the night sky was beautiful

I don't know how true it is, not to keep them in longer than 4-6 weeks but I didn't want to risk anything. I would have hated to have my hair all tangled in the yarn. But I am happy that I had no problems removing them. I'm sure it had something to do with the fact that I kept it well moisturized and also covered it with a satin scarf overnight. I didn't experience any strange smells and surprisingly I never washed them.

Tending to The Little One

After recording this video and looking over it myself (which I never do after I post) I realized how tired I looked after removing my shades. Wow, Prince had me worried and I didn’t sleep well at all last night. My body was all thrown off, I checked on him all throughout the night. When you have a dog/cat they really become a part of you, like a child and it is the hardest thing to see them in pain.

As of this morning he’s perked up a bit, still laying around but when he saw me he jumped as normal, unlike yesterday when he just stared at me helplessly with pain in his eyes (sounds so dramatic right) I can tell he’s still a bit backed up because he stomach is still a little hard. And he still isn’t eating much of anything. Right after I’m out of the office I’m headed home to give him a bath and show him some TLC (tender care & love)

Hey every one, I hope you all have had an amazing beginning of the week! If you're a fellow twitter bug, then you may have heard about the news and why last night and this morning sucked for me. It will really irritate me to go in depth about it, but my car was hit last night during a police chase, it was parked and I was in bed, just thanking God that I wasn't in the car, or getting out. I guess I'm a bit of a drama queen when it comes to my car because the more time that goes by in the day the more I realize that it's not a HUGE boo boo, and it will be fixed promptly. Thanks everyone for the pep talk, my parents, bf, and coworker made me feel better LOL I'm such a baby when it comes to my car!

I'd like to thank you all for constantly asking how my mom has been post surgery, it really means a lot to me, to know that you all genuinely care and want updates a million thanks to you all for the prayers and well wishes. I promised you all an update from her personally, here it is!

Mom:

Today make's five months since my kidney transplant! 10-11-11

I'm doing well! Since my surgery I have tremors (feeling shaky) and within the last month they have increased. I also get very hungry late at night, not for a snack, a full meal. I have one word for that WOW!

Twice I have been sick with something like the flu (NO WARNING AT ALL) I just wake up and can't get out of bed.

I take 15 pills in the morning and 9 at night, I don't get sick anymore from my medications. My friend Jackie at Cigna prayed for me about two months ago and she told me each time I take my medication to hold them in my right hand and say a prayer, I haven't been sick since. Thank you Jesus!

My creatine is at the lowest since my surgery 1.4, my prograf, potassium, magnesium & blood pressure is good.

I started off twice a week having my lab work done to once a week now i'm at one every two weeks YAY!

SHOCKING CHANGES

I don't know what happened, because I have never been a sweet eater-- but I guess my donor likes sweets. . . I now keep mike & ikes in my night stand, I eat cookies & ice cream , etc.

i also have added broccoli, carrots, mac & cheese to my diet.

Before my surgery I was at the gym six times a week, I can now do maybe three or four times a week. I don't feel as strong as I did before my surgery but i'm praying for strength.

I don't get stressed because the thought of being in good health mentally and spiritually is all the reason I need to be happy and thankful.

Rob and I had a nice and relaxing sunday, enjoyed some Mojo yogurt, I was feeling like a fatty so I got the cake batter flavor with a bunch of junk toppings, except for the passion fruit bubbles.. they were good at first, and later grossed me out after I popped so many in my mouth Ughk, lol. It's funny because usually it would be the other way around, mine would be covered in fruit. I guess I've rubbed off on him. He was completely grossed out by my yogurt flavor.

Aside from that, I did add some new items to the shop last week from the Eshun Design Co, here's a little snippet! As you see here, the style is very earthy, gorgeous, does great things against the skin! Should I elaborate more?! I finally got a day off from work which means that I FINALLY had the energy to complete my hair... actually just completed the rest in 1hr. finished literally at midnight. I don't believe I had ever started a hairstyle and took this long to finish, super busy, barely at home-- It was worth the stretch though, I am pleased with the outcome and plan on keeping these in until the year ends.

Protective Styling For The F/W

I have never been a big fan of having to wash my hair during the winter, leaving the house with my hair wet when it's cold outside is just not a good feeling at all. So I've been thinking about what protective styles that I could do for the cooler season. Tree Braids were the first to cross my mind, a huge head of curly tree braids, diva hair. . . ha! But then I thought about it, and I really want try something different, so I have decided to do Genie Locs/Yarn Braids. I picked up a bundle of black Redhart yarn on Friday, started cutting the yarn on Saturday. I will probably start on my hair tonight and finish Tuesday since I have the day off from BCBG. We will see, I am so excited for it!

Born May 30,1980 in Inglewood, CA raised in Detroit, MI Rashard "Shaad J" James used the talents that God gave him at the early age of 6. He started playing drums at his church at 10 years old while singing in the choir . Although he loved music, sports was a big factor in his life. Therefore putting off music for several years of his life .

But in the year of 2008 while living in Atlanta, GA he decided to get back in the groove of music. In April 2009 he landed a sweet job with the artist DJ Class " Mr. I'm the ish " himself, now currently his official drummer. While being on the road and in the studio with Class and being introduced to several well known artists, it allowed the opportunity for Rashard to display his vocal talents. While in Phoenix, AZ DJ class, Shaad J and Jx3 a radio personality for Power 98.3 in Phoenix made a song produced by DJ Class named "Arizona Girl" by Stackz . This allowing Rashard "Shaad J" James to pursue a solo career .

Conditioning Day

So this is the conditioner that I've been raving about all week. Tresseme's Flawless Curls, you can pick this up just about anywhere with hair care products for as little as $3 for this huge salon size bottle. My hair has grown so much so now when I condition my hair I find that it is easier for my to focus on my ends if I apply it to sections of my hair first and then gather all of my hair to the crown of my head and then focus on the ends. I kept it in for about 45minutes and detangled right before I rinsed. This was a great reminder to myself of how much I love Tresseme.

I have been using the shampoo for over a year none stop! I'd definitely say that it's a staple brand that I feel I'd always end up referring back to, along with Organic Root Stimulator and Olive Oil products, I love treating my hair!

Hey loves! I have truly enjoyed myself her in the big city of NY, I will most definitely have to make another trip soon. Time
has flown by and I leave tomorrow afternoon back to the Valley I go. I feel like my next trip to the city will be bigger and better, I most definitely want to meet more of you, we'll plan a meet-up! I love food, and in Arizona all you hear about is how much better NY's pizza is. . . I tried this place and it was quite yummy, but I wasn't blown away, next time I have to get some recommendations from the NY Natives.

Currently sitting inside of a Starbucks in Time Square. . . loving this beautiful view, it reminds me of my years spent in Down Town Los Angeles. Those nights when I just wanted to be alone and enjoy some ME time, with a nice view of the city. This is my kind of evening, I could get use to this for sure! I’m sitting at the bar facing the window. Slightly funny story, did I just pickup an older man? No shade to my honey Rob back at home or anything, an older caucasian man just walked by the window and smiled at me, a few minutes later he comes inside of the coffee shop and says “Excuse me, what kind of laptop is that?” My response “It’s a Mac Pro” he says “Thats nice, I just got an Ipad 2, it’s a bit scary” now mind you this is a much older man, I’m talking mid-late 60’s. I told him that Yes, they can be quite intimidating at first but you should sign up for training at an Apple Store!

Next thing you know he’s buying me a latte, how nice. He told me to have a great trip! He comes back in and asks if I am free tonight (Nope). . . Now, I don’t know how to take this. He was a very sweet man. The situation tickled me ( I laughed on the inside ).

Welp. . . Starbucks is closing down, and I need to pack up for my flight tomorrow! It's been real NY, UNTIL NEXT TIME :)

The third of this month marks 3 years relaxer free, literally free! These years have been some of the best, I really found myself after dropping the chemicals. Honestly, I know that I am not my hair but I seriously feel that I would not have been able to come as far as I have if it were not for my decision to go natural. I gained so much power after that big chop, no one could ever tell me I couldn't.

Over the past year I experimented with shaping my hair. Had my hair cut in a "Wedge" short in the back longer in the front using the Deva Chan dry cutting method. I have not cut the back of my hair again after that, but my hair remained in the wedge shape, which I love. I do experiment with my bangs, I am always clipping at the front of my hair, it's so much fun to me. I am no longer afraid of the sheers, it's hair, it'll grow back. The color on the ends that you see in my hair is a result of my dye growing out. I dyed the top of my hair in December '09 and funny thing is, no one seemed to notice the color until about a few months ago, everyone started asking me if I dyed my tips. Nope, I'm actually trying to get rid of those pieces, trimming frequently. I didn't suffer any damage from dying the top of my hair. Don't be afraid to experiment with color, just make sure you take great care of your hair.

Here is my first home green tea latte, I do admit. . . It is a bit different from Starbucks but I'm guessing it's different because it isn't the powder form, and it is sweetened with melon instead of classic. But as a previous barista, I believe Starbucks use to put melon in their Green Tea latte way back in the day, circa 2006-2007. For those of you that were interested in it, I'd say it's worth giving it a try. If you tried the SBUX latte and thought that it was too strong, then you'd probably like this one, I believe the melon mellows out the bold flavor of the macca.

Some of you ask how to put a flower hair clip in such thick hair. It's rather simple, not rocket science at all, I promise you! My hair is rather thick, like many other naturals but definitely don't let it get you down, the thickness only adds more oomph to the hair accessories. I thought I'd use one of the large Adora clips to demonstrate. I simply grabbed a 1 inch section from the front center of my hair and did a 2-strand twist, I pushed the hair that was remaining on the top crown under the twist ( like a head band) and simply bobby-pinned the twist in place, then. . . placed the hair clip right on tip of the bobbypins. Accessories like these are even cute to wear on the side of a simple bun, the possibilities are endless!

I have been completely addicted to Macca/Matcha Green Tea for a few months now, that has been just about the only thing I get from Starbucks now. I always ask the barista's why they don't sell the macca powder and the response is that "What we use is too expensive to market" gosh, how good this stuff is, my attitude was like hey, I really don't care how much it is, I'd take it over coffee any day, it makes me feel good, and it just feels more natural going down as oppose to coffee, which tweaks me out LMFAO! Macca is a much better alternative for energy

My skin has not been up to parr to my standards as of late. I'm guessing it's a reaction to the slight change in weather, I can tell that it is changing, the sun takes a bit longer to come out in the morning and sets a little sooner than usual, my skin can tell that fall is around the corner. So I decided that it was time for a new cleanser and skin care regimen. I will post it later, but for now check out my cleanser

I only used it last night, it worked great. I have oily skin, it removed literally all of my makeup, including my liner and mascara. After cleansing I went over my skin with a 50/50 combo of apple cider vinegar and water using a cotton ball and there was NOTHING left over on the cotton ball. Mind you, I had a full face of makeup to begin with! I'm impressed!

Last week I had the opportunity to join in on a conference call with Dr. Fran of Crème of Nature, where she answered many questions that are asked regarding hair & scalp issues. Here I will share some of the things that stuck out to me/ that I was able to relate to during the conference call. I hope you all find this information useful, and hopefully it helps you with any scalp problems that you have or have had in the past.

Dandruff & Dry Scalp:

There is inflammation involved. To treat dandruff you use an anti inflammatory, which is a bit different from dry scalp. The most important part in preventing dry scalp is finding the right hair & scalp care products

Crème of Natures Argon Oil line, it includes a shampoo and conditioner. The shampoo is a gentle hydrating sulfate free shampoo. This will provide a good amount of moisture, along with the conditioner

The Difference between Breakage & Hair loss:

Breakage & Normal shedding is considered a form of hair loss. Then there is also pathogenic hair loss meaning hair loss due to a specific problem (medical, nutrition, grooming, and some styles).

Breakage – look at the end of the hair, usually you can see splitting at the ends

Spotty/Uneven hair loss – Sign of another problem either external or internal; that is when you should see a dermatologist, the key to this is not waiting too long before getting help.

Oiling Scalp: Our bodies are set up to produce enough moisture for our scalp on a regular basis. There are instances that in the winter time, oiling the hair is appropriate. You want to avoid very heavy product to oil the scalp. Using something like the Gloss & Shine Polisher, a really light formulation that adds just the right amount of moisture without clogging the pores. That is an ideal product to start with when adding oil to the hair and scalp. Dr. Fran recommends to patients to apply it to the hair only, unless you have very severe dry scalp.

In the process of season changes, many people complain about dandruff, flaking of the scalp & itching. The medical diagnosis for this is Ceberic Dermatitis. It is a function of our oil production glands trying to adjust to the changes in the weather, and our scalp reacting to the changes, and it doesn’t quite get it right and it ends up with too much oil production which can build up, that dries, and you get the flaking and itching from the inflammation because that oil has built up and irritated the scalp. And normally, when we see the flaking build up, we tend to add more oil to those dry areas. That is not really dry scalp, but is actually dried up oil which has caused inflammation; what we should actually do in this case is treat our scalp with an anti inflammatory. During that time you can still use light oil on your hair if needed, but it is best to avoid applying oil to the scalp and just treat the scalp with the anti-inflammatory and sometimes its treated with an anti yeast preparation along with the anti inflammatory.

How often to wash

Dr. Fran stated that it is recommended to wash at least every 1-2 weeks.

Individuals with less curl or people that use a lot of product- Once a week

Prone to itchy/flaky scalp or product buildup - Once a week

Tightly Coiled/ Tight curls- Every two weeks are fine. Dr. Fran states “water can be drying to the hair and to the scalp itself, and that is why it is so important that after you wash your hair, that you condition. As long as you do that, then you really don’t have to worry about stripping or over drying your hair.

Co-Washing

If your hair is very tightly coiled and you suffer from breakage and other hair care concerns, it is suggested that you wash your hair one week, and co wash the next week.

Moisturizing Ends

Moisturize at least once a week, a recommended product is the Gloss and Shine Polisher with Argan oil. When applying it to the ends, to avoid weighing them down, use just a small amount and then rub it into the ends. Note: Crème of Nature Shampoos is known to provide nutrients.

So like most of my Arizona people may know, this week is AllStar week, yesterday was the AllStar Game and let me tell you.. I am not exaggerating when I say that BCBG was so slow yesterday! I swear that we only had about 7 walk-ins yesterday. By the end ofthe day my manager and I were in awe because all businesses have slow times but we were literally like DEAD and then we realized that everyone had to be at the AllStar game because all of Biltmore Fashion Park was dead actually! Aside from some business men and a few vacationers wearing their vacation gear that consisted of big hats and button up shirts with really bad floral prints, paired with khakis. No bueno. *smiles*

It was family day at church today, my family and I went to a different church today, it was quite nice and just how I like it, Short & Sweet. Alex, founder of The Good Hair Blog and owner of Safi Natural Hair Care sent me a couple of product samples! Hair Heaven Leave-In & Coil Latte Buttercreme. Anytime I get my hands on a new product, my first instinct is to smell it, second instinct is to feel it. I'm big on smell & texture, especially when it comes to what I will be putting into my hair.

Monday morning I washed and conditioned my hair, and followed up by applying The Hair Heaven Leave-In, the smell is mouth watering smell's like an orange creme popsicle! I actually applied the leave in by applying it on medium sections of my hair and twisting it to dry over night. That following morning, I had lots of moisture. I never really purchase leave-in conditioners because I usually just use regular conditioner's as leave-in's but I can see this being a staple product, the smell is great and I love the way my hair felt after using it.

This morning I used the Coil Latte Buttercreme to take out my coil's to, it gave me the perfect amount of moisture and shine; and I kid you not, this stuff smells so yummy. . . like a cafe frappuccino! I can see! My whole life I have been stuck wearing prescription frames, though I made it work for me by picking frames that accentuated my face; A girl gets tired of being behind the frames. Today I picked up my first paid of contact lenses. I have an astigmatism so I did have to get end up having to get Toric Lenses which are still soft but a bid larger in circumference than your average lenses. I originally went in for my fitting on Thursday. Unfortunately I'm a blinker and couldn't get them both in and out on my own. I was a bit irritated with myself, damn right! But I watched a few YouTube videos and meditated a bit. Comes tuesday and I was ready! The boyf. gave me a little pep talk and I was good! I can see! that's all I have been saying today.

IDK what I was thinking to wear this today, I had no idea it would be so hot. I have no clue where these jeans were from as I did buy them when I was in high school, keep in mind I graduated about 4 years ago..forgive me! I felt uber comfortable today.. I'm wearing an ancient top that I bought years ago, just trimmed a bit off the bottom for added "drape-ery". Leggings are from [H&M]. These lovely sandals that I purchased a few years ago are like my favorite, but I don't wear them that often because I'm a bit too lazy to lace them all the way up.. If I were wearing shorts, these sandles are capable of being laced all the way up above the calf, I purchased them at the [L.A. Garment District] quite some time ago. The studs are from [forever21]. Clutch is [Foley + Corinna] a gift from my best friend

After last week's review on the hair care product's that [Tiiva Natural's] sent me, out of courtesy they sponsored a give away for my viewers. Two lucky viewers of [My Youtube Channel] got the opportunity to receive a 8oz. bottle of the leave in conditioner.
